The Heart Behind the Hive

Our Story

Every journey begins with wonder. Ours began with bees.

Welcome

A Life Shaped by Bees

I often say that I didn't choose beekeeping — it chose me. From my earliest memories, I was drawn to the humming life of the hive, fascinated by the intricate dance of workers, the quiet authority of the queen, the sweet miracle of honey.

Over the years, this fascination deepened into a calling. I studied the modern methods, but it was the old ways — the practices of monks and cottagers, farmers and wise women — that truly captured my heart.

The Journey

How We Came to Be

The Beginning

A Fascination Takes Root

What started as childhood curiosity about the mysterious world of bees grew into a lifelong passion. Watching my grandfather tend his hives in the old way planted seeds that would take years to fully bloom.

Learning

Years of Study

From books to mentors, from apiaries to archives, I immersed myself in both the science and the folklore of beekeeping. Every colony taught me something new about patience, observation, and respect for nature.

Discovery

Finding the Old Ways

A chance encounter with historical beekeeping methods opened new doors. The wisdom of past generations, I realised, held answers to many modern challenges facing our bees.

Today

Green Man Honey

Now, through workshops, talks, and the quiet work of tending hives, I share what I've learned. Green Man Honey is more than a name — it's a commitment to keeping ancient traditions alive.

The Name

Why “Green Man”?

The Green Man is an ancient symbol found in churches, manuscripts, and folk traditions across Europe. A face surrounded by leaves, sometimes with vegetation sprouting from the mouth — he represents the inescapable connection between humanity and the natural world.

For us, the Green Man embodies what we strive to be: rooted in nature, honouring the old ways, and always growing. It's a reminder that we are not separate from the natural world, but an integral part of it.

What Guides Us

Our Values

1

Respect for Nature

We work within nature's rhythms, never forcing or rushing. The bees are our teachers, and we listen more than we interfere.

2

Preservation of Heritage

Traditional crafts and knowledge risk being lost. We're committed to documenting, practicing, and sharing these skills with future generations.

3

Sustainable Practice

Every decision considers the long-term health of our bees, our land, and our community. True sustainability means thinking in generations, not seasons.

4

Authentic Connection

In a world of mass production, we believe in the value of handmade, local, and personal. Every candle, every jar of honey, every workshop carries our genuine care.

Our Mission

Keeping Ancient Crafts Alive

In a fast-paced world, traditional skills risk being forgotten. We believe these crafts hold wisdom that modern life needs — patience, connection to nature, respect for the seasons, and the satisfaction of creating something beautiful with our own hands. Through our workshops, talks, and daily practice, we work to ensure these traditions continue to light the way for future generations.
